From AFP: Five European NATO nations are to call "in the coming weeks" for the removal of all remaining US nuclear weapons from European soil, a spokesman for Belgium’s prime minister said on Friday.

Belgium, Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and Norway are to issue the demand for scores of Cold War American nuclear warheads retained on the continent to be removed in keeping with a pledge by US President Barack Obama.

"The Belgian government and the four countries in question will propose in the coming weeks that nuclear arms on European soil belonging to other NATO member states are removed," Dominique Dehaene from Belgian premier Yves Leterme’s office told AFP.

"’It’s a question of launching the debate at the heart of NATO," he underlined. (photo: Greenpeace)
