Q&A: The Assassination of Egypt’s Prosecutor General

In the first assassination of a government official in Egypt since 1990, Prosecutor General Hisham Barakat was killed Monday after a bomb hit his convoy in the Cairo. Barakat, who was injured in the attack, was transferred to the Nozha Hospital where he succumbed to his wounds hours later.

Top News: Bombing in Egypt Leaves Top Prosecutor Dead

Egypt’s Prosecutor General Hisham Barakat died following a bomb attack on his vehicle early Monday, medical sources said. Earlier reports had suggested Barakat was stable. One civilian and five members of the security forces were also injured in the attack on the prosecutor’s convoy near the military academy in Heliopolis.
