On Thursday, May 5, 2016, the Atlantic Council Global Energy Center hosted a roundtable discussion with H.E. Mogens Lykketoft, President of the seventieth Session of the United Nations General Assembly. President Lykketoft offered insights into the implementation of the Paris Climate Agreement and the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda.
In the wake of the historic COP21 climate agreement and the announcement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, public and private sector leaders are grappling with vexing challenges and seizing on emerging opportunities in the global effort to promote a cleaner, more sustainable, and more prosperous future. Global leaders face the dual challenge of generating cleaner and more sustainable energy while simultaneously expanding meaningful access to energy to include the 1.4 billion people who lack it. Fostering robust and ongoing cross-sector dialogue on these issues is critically important to devising and implementing innovative solutions.
