On Thursday, February 14, 2013 the Atlantic Council’s Strategic Foresight initiative (SFI), of the Brent Scowcroft Center on International Security, hosted a roundtable discussion with Dr. Robert D. Hormats, US undersecretary of state for growth, energy and the environment; Mr. Henk Ovink, Dutch director general for spatial planning and water affairs; Mr. Andras Forgacs, co-founder and CEO of Modern Meadow; and Mr. Manish Bapna, executive vice president and managing director of the World Resources Institute.

The four speakers focused on connectivity between the food-water-energy nexus, and urbanization. One of the insights emerging from the general discussion was the importance of linking experts in various fields-scientists working on developing sustainably printed meat, policymakers focusing on water scarcity, and a wide array of people affected by and interested in the dual trends of urbanization and food-water-energy scarcity. All in all, the session furthered discussion on how innovative technologies can contribute to and trigger a shift in natural resource management for a future world in which cities will have far greater populations.
