On Tuesday March 22, the Future Europe Initiative hosted a roundtable discussion on Germany’s leadership role in Europe with the leadership team of the German business paper Handelsblatt. The event was moderated by Frances Burwell, Atlantic Council Vice President for European Union and Special Initiatives, with keynote remarks by Gabor Steingart, Chairman of Handelsblatt Publishing Group and Publisher of Handelsblatt.

Steingart discussed the leadership role of Germany during a period of rapid change and uncertainty in Europe. He provided his perspective on the future of the European Union as it faces the migration crisis and Germany’s response to refugees; economic stagnation and unemployment across the EU; internal divisions and external threats to the South and East; among other challenges.
