Roundtable Discussion with Ministerial Delegation from the Republic of South Sudan

The Michael S. Ansari Africa Center hosted a not-for-attribution roundtable discussion with a ministerial delegation from the Republic of South Sudan.

His Excellency Deng Alor Kuol, minister of cabinet affairs; His Excellency Kosti Manibe Ngai, minister of finance and economic planning; and His Excellency Stephen Dhieu Dau, minister of petroleum and mining, discussed the ongoing negotiations between Juba and Khartoum. Participating in the discussion, which was moderated by Ansari Center Deputy Director Bronwyn Bruton, were H.E. Akec Khoc, ambassador of the Republic of South Sudan to the United States; Ambassador Dhanojak Obongo, deputy chief of mission of the South Sudanese embassy; a number of Africa policy experts from the US government, think tanks, and advocacy organizations; and representatives from the private sector.

The roundtable concluded a trio of Atlantic Council events on the crisis in the Sudans. On August 1, the US Special Envoy Princeton Lyman gave a major policy address on US relations with Sudan, and on August 6, the Council hosted a transition seminar for the first South Sudanese ambassador to the US, H.E. Akec Khoc.
