On Tuesday, March 12, 2013, the Cyber Statecraft Initiative of the Atlantic Council hosted a roundtable strategy session on the “State of Internet and Cybersecurity Governance” to encourage collaboration among key stakeholders from partner nations, US government officials, and the private sector.
The event provided high-level experts on US cyber policy an opportunity to discuss the latest developments in the field of cybersecurity and to consider the mutual goals of public and private organizations. Participants discussed the importance of encouraging international capacity building and establishing norms within the cyber domain. Additionally, there was a significant discussion on the role of the existing multi-stakeholder organizations that contribute to Internet governance, and whether these groups should expand their focus to address cybersecurity.
This workshop is the first in the Cybersecurity through Responsible Governance series. A second workshop in the series, entitled “Building on the Results of the Budapest International Cyberspace Conference,” will be held in early April.
