On October 9, the Atlantic Council’s Strategic Foresight Initiative hosted Dr. Daniel Yergin for a discussion with Atlantic Council President & CEO Frederick Kempe to discuss his new book The Quest.

Yergin, a Pulitzer Prize-winning author, interweaves the issues of climate change, the shale gas revolution, and a rising China in order to explain the state of energy in 2012. In accordance with the work of the Council’s Strategic Foresight Initiative, he analyzed how these factors will influence the global community in the next two decades, citing the unstoppable growth of energy demand as the driving force governing the development of the industry in the medium term.

Dr. Yergin is the author of the recent bestseller The Quest: Energy, Security, and the Remaking of the Modern World. Published in 2011, The Quest is a tour de force of the global energy landscape, from politics to technology, and has been hailed as “a fascinating saga” and “the book you must read to understand the future of our economy and our way of life.” He also received the Pulitzer Prize for The Prize: The Epic Quest for Oil Money and Power, which became a number one New York Times best seller and has been translated into seventeen languages.

Other books by Dr. Yergin include Commanding Heights: The Battle for the World Economy.
