On September 7, 2017, the Atlantic Council’s EuroGrowth Initiative participated in a debate on how to stimulate economic growth in Europe, in collaboration with the Institut Montaigne. The event took place in Paris, France.
The discussion revolved around heightened political turbulences on both sides of the Atlantic, focusing particularly on the rise of Eurosceptic movements. Panelists reflected on the best ways to mitigate them, concluding that accelerated economic growth is essential. Increased economic growth in Europe would also benefit the United States, as Global Business & Economics Director Andrea Montanino pointed out during his presentation of the EuroGrowth report. Amb. C. Boyden Gray, a former U.S. Ambassador to the European Union (EU) and a generous supporter of the EuroGrowth Initiative, stressed the importance of developing technology and innovation, noting that Europe could improve its Venture Capital markets by looking at best practices from the U.S.
