How the US can deal with China from a position of strength, according to Dan Sullivan

By Larry Luxner

Reflecting on the dramatic encounter in his home state of Alaska, US Senator Dan Sullivan noted that the public exchange was “as chilly as the Alaska air outside.” But it represented “a realistic start to the relationship,” he added, “and that’s what we need.”

China Politics & Diplomacy

China is the foremost geopolitical competitor to the United States since the Soviet Union. It presents a challenge across the domains of trade, technology, governance, and security. The Atlantic Council has been at the forefront of developing strategies for this challenge, including “The Longer Telegram: Toward a New American China Strategy,” released in January, and “Global Strategy 2021: An Allied Strategy for China,” published in December. How should the United States address the China challenge? What are the key pillars of a China strategy? More broadly, how should the United States approach the Indo-Pacific region?

The Scowcroft Center for Strategy and Security’s Global Strategy Initiative was pleased to present this live, online conversation as part of the #ACFrontPage event series, our premier ideas platform spotlighting global leaders who are championing constructive solutions to global challenges.
