On Tuesday, January 6 at 9:00 a.m. ET/ 10:00 a.m. VET, the Atlantic Council’s Adrienne Arsht Latin America Center, joined by the Scowcroft Center for Strategy and Security, will host an in-person discussion on the implications of the US capture of Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro and the military operation that struck key targets in Caracas on Saturday.

Venezuela may finally be on the cusp of a democratic transition. President Donald Trump’s statement that the United States will “run the country until such time as we can do a safe, proper, and judicious transition” reflects a longer-term commitment to Venezuela but also raises questions about the country’s future.

The event will explore short- and long-term political, security, and economic scenarios following Maduro’s removal, including prospects for democratic governance, civil-military relations, and regional stability.

New policy: In-person attendees will be required to show photo ID upon arrival, and no on-site registration will be permitted. Guests will not be admitted later than twenty minutes after the event’s start time. Registration for this event will close at 5:00 p.m. ET the day prior.
