Fossil fuels will remain the major source of energy for decades.  The ability to meet climate change targets at affordable cost requires a portfolio of low carbon technologies including hydroelectric, solar, wind, next generation nuclear, and fossil and biomass with carbon capture and storage (CCS).  While CCS offers significant large-scale reductions in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and some economic opportunities such as enhanced oil recovery (EOR), key questions persist.

–Is CCS ready to achieve large-scale GHG emissions reductions?
–How can CCS be deployed without slowing renewable deployment?
–Is CCS safe? What are the risks? How can they be mitigated and managed?
–What is the technology status, cost and business case?
–Are regulations enough to advance CCS deployment?
–What legislative action and policy incentives are needed?

The CCS Facts and Policy Forum will address these questions, showcase legislative leadership on CCS and give participants the opportunity to be a part of the discussion.

This event, hosted by the Atlantic Council, ENGO Network on CCS, and the Global CCS Institute, will convene senior thought leaders from industry, government, academia, and other stakeholder groups on May 15, 2014 from 8:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
