More has changed in US-Cuba policy in the last six months than over the last five decades. By helping Cuba to rejoin the global economy, the international community could now do even more to improve the lives of Cuba’s citizens.  Is rejoining international financial institutions the necessary first step toward reintegration? What is preventing this from happening—are the impediments on the island, in US policy, or in institutions like the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB)?

Join us for the launch of a report written by Cuban economist Pavel Vidal and former IMF Mission Chief for Albania Scott Brown on Cuba’s reintegration into international financial institutions. Top economists and policy leaders will discuss why this should be a priority at this moment of great transition, and how these institutions have helped bring previously isolated nations like Albania, Vietnam, and Myanmar into the global community.
