In January 2014, Greece will take up the Presidency of the Council of the European Union. Ambassador Mitsialis will discuss Greece’s priorities for its Presidency, relations with the Arab transition countries and the ongoing crisis in Syria, as well as key issues on the European agenda, including illegal migration. He will also discuss Greece’s role in the Balkans and the Eastern Mediterranean, as well as US-Greek relations.
In a diplomatic career spanning more than twenty-five years, Ambassador Mitsialis has represented Greece in embassies around the world. He has been secretary general of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Greece since March 2013. Prior to his current position, Ambassador Mitsialis acted as the permanent representative of Greece to the United Nations in New York. He holds a degree in political science and public law from the University of Athens, and is fluent in five languages.
