As the global community continues to grapple with the coronavirus (COVID-19), the Atlantic Council is open for business. Our business, meetings, and events, however, are occurring virtually. For more information, please read an update from our President and CEO.
As President Joe Biden heads to the United Kingdom for the G7 Summit on June 11, he will be looking to revitalize America’s alliances, particularly in light of the challenges posed by China and Russia. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has suggested that a new D-10 can help foster cooperation among democracies, and has invited the leaders of Australia, India, South Africa, and South Korea to participate as guests in this year’s summit.
Please join the Atlantic Council for a virtual discussion on what to expect from the G7 Summit, whether the G7 should be expanded to a D-10, which nations should be included, and how such an entity can help galvanize democratic cooperation while avoiding further global polarization.
Speakers include Ms. Melinda Bohannon, Strategy Director of the United Kingdom Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office; Dr. David Gordon, Senior Advisor for Geo-Economics and Strategy at the International Institute for Strategic Studies and former Director of US State Department Policy Planning; Dr. Tobias Bunde, Director of Research and Policy for the Munich Security Conference; and Mr. Ash Jain, Senior Fellow at the Atlantic Council. Patrick Wintour, Diplomatic Editor of The Guardian, will serve as moderator.
The event will also mark the release of a new Atlantic Council report: From the G7 to the D-10: Strengthening Democratic Cooperation for Today’s Challenges, by Ash Jain and Matthew Kroenig, in collaboration with Tobias Bunde, Sophia Gaston, and Yuichi Hosoya.
The event will be entirely virtual, and participants will receive a link to participate via Zoom upon submitting their RSVP. Make your voice heard on Twitter using the hashtag #DemocraticOrder.
