The 2024 Atlantic hurricane season begins on June 1 and runs until the end of November. During this time, Caribbean countries are at their most vulnerable to hurricanes and strong tropical storms, which affect economic growth and the livelihoods of citizens. Now more than ever, the international community must increase its efforts to expand and strengthen climate resilience in the Caribbean. With each hurricane season worse than the last, urgency to provide the necessary resources to Caribbean countries is growing if they hope to strengthen their climate adaptation and mitigation efforts.
What support from regional and international partners do Caribbean governments need to strengthen their climate resilience? How can the private sector most effectively get involved in climate adaptation efforts? How can the region best access finance and capital for climate adaptation and mitigation efforts?
Please join the Atlantic Council’s Caribbean Initiative on Friday, May 31, 2024, from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. (ET) for a virtual event as stakeholders and partners of the Caribbean issue a global call to action to build greater climate resilience as hurricane season begins. The conversation is part of the Caribbean Initiative’s continued focus on how climate impacts the region and will also preview new recommendations from the Caribbean Initiative’s upcoming PACC 2030 report, which highlights US opportunities to implement its climate-oriented policies in the region.
