The Atlantic Council Global Energy Center, in partnership with British Embassy Washington and the University of Kansas are hosting a first-of-a-kind virtual Model COP26 on March 25, 2021, from 10AM to 5PM CT.

Inspired by the Model UN structure, Model COP26 will engage students in interactive simulations around meeting the COP26 goals. Between the simulation exercises, the conference will feature remarks from high-level experts and government officials. Karen Pierce, British Ambassador to the US will give opening remarks.

The event will raise awareness around the COP26 agenda, will bring attention to the importance of coordinated and urgent climate action, and will demonstrate the inner workings of COP negotiations. The students will compete in groups representing pre-assigned countries. A panel of esteemed judges will score the groups’ presentations on updated Nationally Determined Contribution (NDCs), Article 6 of the Paris Agreement negotiations, as well as opportunities for cooperation across 5 priority areas for the UK COP26 Presidency: resilience and adaptation, nature, clean energy, clean transport, and finance.

Students have an option to observe the event or to participate in the simulation exercises as a “negotiator.”
