Please join the Atlantic Council’s Global Energy Center and Europe Center for a fireside chat with H.E. Ditte Juul Jørgensen, director-general for energy at the European Commission, on Thursday, March 14 at 4:30 p.m. (ET), on the importance of reinforcing the transatlantic alliance through cooperation on shared climate and energy security objectives. The conversation will focus on bolstering supply chain diversification and transatlantic clean energy trade, assessing the lessons learned from the energy crisis, and ensuring continued support for Ukraine’s energy sector.

This fireside chat will be followed by a hybrid panel discussion to launch the Atlantic Council Global Energy Center’s new report, Reducing Europe’s reliance on Russian energy imports: Key strategies under five scenarios, by Ambassador Richard L. Morningstar, Ambassador Andras Simonyi, Olga Khakova, and Paddy Ryan. The report demonstrates the centrality of the transatlantic alliance to European energy security, the necessary interconnection between energy security and the green transition, and the importance of Ukraine to Europe’s energy future. Throughout the discussion, the authors will share key recommendations and concrete steps that Europe and the transatlantic alliance can take to:

  • Prevent Europe from relapsing into energy dependence on Russia—and from developing new dependencies
  • Reinvigorate the US-EU energy relationship by advancing an energy-secure transition that is protected against cyber and kinetic sabotage
  • Engage Ukraine to the greatest extent possible, as the country’s reconstruction presents an opportunity to tap its enormous energy potential and create a new pillar for European energy security

Please join us for a reception immediately following the event at the Atlantic Council studios. To join this event in-person or virtually, please register using the form on this page. For more information on getting to the Atlantic Council, please visit here.
