As the global community continues to grapple with the coronavirus (COVID-19), the Atlantic Council is open for business. Our business, meetings, and events, however, are occurring virtually. For more information, please read an update from our President and CEO.

Please join the Atlantic Council’s Transatlantic Security Initiative and Future Europe Initiative for a virtual roundtable with H.E. Nicolae-Ionel Ciucă, Minister of National Defense of Romania. This private, off-the-record roundtable will take place on Wednesday, October 14, 2020 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. EDT via Zoom.

The security of the Black Sea region raises first-order questions for NATO and the transatlantic community regarding collective deterrence and defense. Control of the strategically important region is core to Russia’s ambitions regionally and globally, as it is a key launchpad for operations in the Middle East and North Africa. Romania has an intimate view of Russia’s aggressive military activities in the region, working on the frontlines to blunt the effect of Moscow’s provocations. The recent announcement of US troop withdrawals from Germany and the possibility of an increased rotational presence in Romania and Bulgaria are important considerations for regional deterrence as well.

If you are able to participate, please RSVP via the form below. Please reach out to Leah Scheunemann (LScheunemann@AtlanticCouncil.org) with any questions.
