On Wednesday, October 29, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. ET, the Atlantic Council, in partnership with Natural Resources Canada and the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy, will host the 2025 Summit on the Future of Energy Security. Taking place in Toronto, Canada, the summit will convene leaders from government, civil society, and industry to discuss energy security, financing, and cutting-edge technologies.

Canada’s G7 presidency this year comes at a time of shifting policy and trade agendas, and energy security has become a paramount facet of national security agendas. As global leaders carefully work to empower a competitive and energy-secure future, the G7 ministerial meeting in Toronto offers a critical venue for strengthening coordination between allies. At the Summit on the Future of Energy Security, hosted just ahead of the ministerial meeting, global leaders will explore solutions for meeting energy demand, securing critical energy supply chains, and scaling new energy infrastructure.

New policy: In-person attendees will be required to show photo ID upon arrival, and no on-site registration will be permitted. Guests will not be admitted later than twenty minutes after the event’s start time. Registration for this event will close at 5:00 p.m. ET the day prior.

9:25—10:00 a.m. | Defining energy security in a new age of leadership, competition, and growth

The intersection of energy security and economic competitiveness continues to serve as a central pillar of geopolitical relationships. This dynamic has only intensified following the 2024 global election cycle, prompting a renewed focus on energy security’s evolving role within broader national security priorities. Newfound emphasis on reshoring, trade policy, and supply chain resilience necessitates a re-examination of energy security and its impact on economic growth, geopolitical competitiveness, and national security in the long-term. How can G7 countries effectively equip themselves to navigate these growing energy challenges together? Can G7 countries foster energy security and economic collaboration through coordinated policy action and support for private industry? How can policymakers and stakeholders best support private sector efforts to develop resilient, future-ready energy infrastructure?

10:20–10:55 a.m. | Balancing the load: Innovation, affordability, and the 2030 energy challenge

As global energy demand accelerates toward 2030, ensuring affordability and access for consumers will be a defining challenge of the next decade. Rising energy consumption and infrastructure constraints are putting upward pressure on prices, threatening economic stability and consumer well-being. To preserve affordability, G7 countries must explore policy frameworks that enable cost-effective grid expansion, incentivize innovation, and balance the mix of new and conventional energy sources. How can G7 collaboration protect consumers from rising energy costs? What regulatory and investment tools can policymakers deploy to enable innovation and inspire private development? How can the public and private sector work together to deliver both innovation and affordability?

11:20–11:55 a.m. | Pathways to power: Scaling emerging technologies to meet rising demand

Technological advancement lives at the heart of the energy transition, offering the opportunity for a low-carbon and energy secure future. Already, technologies like nuclear energy, artificial intelligence (AI), smart grids, and new storage solutions have gained momentum as new pillars of the energy landscape. But driving forward these new technologies will require substantial investment in R&D, resource extraction, and technology transfer to meet commercial goals. What collaborative models between governments and industry are needed to deliver large-scale energy and infrastructure projects critical to the transition? How can G7 nations come together to promote the commercialization of emerging technologies? How can the private sector work to accelerate the deployment of emerging technologies to meet rising energy demand and infrastructure needs?
