Please join the Atlantic Council, TheCityUK, and Thomson Reuters on February 12 from 18:30 – 20:00 for a high-level panel discussion  on the current state of transatlantic financial regulatory reform efforts, and the future of international financial regulation. The discussion will be followed by a brief reception to celebrate the launch of our newest report, entitled  "The Danger of Divergence: Transatlantic Financial Reform & the G20 Agenda."

 

As we move into a new year and reflect on the implementation of the Volcker Rule in the United States and the movements towards a banking union and single banking supervisory mechanism in Europe, efforts to cooperate on reforms across the Atlantic have stalled. Although translating the G20 regulatory agenda has been largely harmonious and remarkably consistent across the Atlantic, American and European regulatory practices have diverged in several crucial areas, which could prove to seriously undermine the stability and efficiency of the transatlantic financial marketplace. During the discussion, members of the European and American financial regulatory policymaking communities will provide key insights into the current state of transatlantic financial cooperation, weigh in on the challenges that lie ahead, and offer meaningful solutions to resolve divergent regulatory practices in the future.
