Please join the Atlantic Council’s Brent Scowcroft Center on International Security for a discussion with the Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, US Representative Ed Royce (R), and Representative of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the United States (TECRO), Dr. Lyushun Shen, at the Rayburn House Office Building, Room 2172.
Rep. Royce and Dr. Shen will discuss the future of the US-Taiwan relationship during this event to commemorate the thirty-fifth anniversary of the Taiwan Relations Act (TRA). Following China’s rise, worsening relations between China and Japan, and the peaceful development of cross-strait relations, the strategic situation in East Asia is vastly different from thirty-five years ago. The TRA signed in 1979 is the cornerstone on which Taiwan-US relations have been built. It has played a significant role in governing US policy in East Asia over the past thirty-five years by demonstrating support for Taiwan’s vibrant democracy.
This Atlantic Council event is part of the Cross-Straits Series of the Brent Scowcroft Center’s Asia Security Initiative, which examines strategic and current affairs surrounding cross-straits relations.
