The Atlantic Council and Thomson Reuters are honored to invite you to the sixth and final event in the "Power of Transparency" speaker series, featuring Mme. Christine Lagarde, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Wednesday, February 8, from 11:30 a.m. – 12:45 p.m. 

The IMF plays a critical global role in increasing transparency to promote long-term growth. The release of consistent and standardized country analysis is critical for sound decision-making and for the efficient functioning of economies. As an independent and trusted international organization, IMF country-specific Article IV Reports and Financial Sector Assessment Programs help increase transparency on economic and financial sector developments, especially in countries with a poor track record of providing reliable information. 

Capacity development provided by the IMF helps governments improve the functioning of their economies by making them more transparent, efficient, and better able to attract investment. The design of transparent budgets that are understandable and widely available to the public, helps make politicians more accountable. The support of more efficient public administration also helps economies function better and become less vulnerable to crises. Given the potential negative effects of misreporting, transparency is a core function of IMF financial assistance programs and is an important way for citizens to know about economic policies in their countries and to hold decision-makers accountable.
In an interactive Q&A moderated by Axel Threlfall, editor-at-large at Reuters, Mme. Lagarde will share her experience leading the IMF and its efforts to make the world’s economies more transparent.
