The Power of Transparency Series
Too Big to Fail? The Power of Transparency in Preventing Future Financial Crises

A conversation with:
Mr. Richard Berner
Director
Office of Financial Research

More details to follow.

The Atlantic Council and Thomson Reuters invite you to the fifth event in the "Power of Transparency" speaker series, featuring The Hon. Richard Berner, Director of the Office of Financial Research (OFR), on Wednesday, January 25, for a discussion over lunch from 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. A light lunch will be served.

In response to the 2007-09 financial crisis, Congress created the Office of Financial Research (OFR) to build world‐class Research and Analysis and Data centers. The OFR’s mission is to promote financial stability by “shining a light in the dark corners of the financial system to see where risks are going, assess how much of a threat they might pose, and provide policymakers with financial analysis, information, and evaluation of policy tools to mitigate them.”

The OFR’s vision is a transparent, efficient, and stable financial system. With several shocks to the global financial system in 2016, the question arises: Are we better equipped now to face a financial crisis in the future? Director Berner will evaluate the current state of the financial system, the challenges ahead, and the role transparency and new and emerging technologies can play in making the financial system and thus the economy more resilient to future shock.
