Deputy Minister Pistelli will provide a perspective on the wider Middle East region, with a special emphasis on Iran and Syria, as well as Iraq. He will also address the state of the transatlantic cooperation towards those countries, and towards the countries of the “Arab Spring.” Italy has long been a key player in the Mediterranean region and has expanded its focus on the region more broadly.

Deputy Minister Pistelli has been an integral part of Enrico Letta’s government since his appointment in May 2013. He is a member of the Italian Democratic Party, where he serves as head of the Foreign Affairs and International Relations Department, in addition to his duties as a member of the Italian Parliament.  Deputy Minster Pistelli’s political career has taken him to more than seventy countries. A journalist since 1991, he continues to publish regularly in various newspapers on issues related to European and international affairs.
