On Tuesday, December 2 at 9:30 a.m. ET, the Atlantic Council’s Adrienne Arsht Latin America Center (AALAC) will host experts for a readout of Honduras’s general elections and their implications for the country’s democratic institutions and stability.
On November 30, Hondurans will head to the polls to elect the next president, members of congress, mayors, and representatives to the Central American Parliament. This vote will take place following logistical challenges, institutional disputes, and multiple fraud allegations that have shaken public confidence. With the possibility of a disputed outcome, nearly seventy observer groups from around the wold will be closely monitoring the process.
This virtual discussion will unpack what unfolded on the road to the vote, explore election-day developments, and consider what lies ahead for maintaining stability and ensuring a smooth transfer of power.
