With economic conditions deteriorating across the Middle East, partly as a result of the region's civil conflicts, Arab youth face difficult choices and an uncertain future. The Middle East’s highest priority and deepest need remains job creation. As citizens and governments gain unprecedented levels of connectivity within and across borders, how can policymakers harness the energy and innovation of young people for positive social impact?

Please join the Atlantic Council on Thursday, September 1 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. for a conversation with H.E. Shamma Al Mazrui, the United Arab Emirates Minister of State for Youth Affairs; Ms. Jasmine El-Gamal, senior fellow at the Atlantic Council’s Brent Scowcroft Center on International Security; Mr. Mattias Lundberg, lead specialist for the Global Partnership for Youth in Development at the World Bank; Mr. William Reese, president and CEO of the International Youth Foundation; and Ms. Kim Ghattas, correspondent with the BBC, to discuss youth civic engagement across the Middle East.

By convening US and foreign government policymakers, experts from international organizations and the nonprofit sector, and exceptional young leaders, we hope to provide a forum to highlight the success stories of youth leaders and innovative governments, and to consider future policy options available to Middle Eastern states. We hope that you will be able to join us for this important event.
