Financial Inclusion: A Powerful Tool for Powerful Women
By Global Business & Economics Program
On April 20, the Atlantic Council’s Global Business and Economics Program hosted a panel discussion on financial inclusion of women, featuring The Hon. Siv Jensen, Minister of Finance of Sweden; The Hon. Dana Reizniece-Ozola, Minister of Finance of Latvia; and Mr. Yannick Glenmarec, the Assistant Secretary General and Deputy Executive Director for Policy at UN Women. The event was moderated by Laura Lane, President of Global Affairs at UPS. Welcome remarks were provided by Ms. Capricia Marshall, Ambassador in Residence at the Atlantic Council.
The distinguished speakers discussed the importance of women’s financial inclusion, both in developed and developing countries. The conversation also touched upon innovative ways methods to implement the inclusion of women in the financial system. All panel participants have been active role models in the effort to promote women’s equality and inclusion, whether that be in the public or private sector. They spoke of their own experiences and the different ways in which they are contributing to female inclusion in their respective capacities.
After a lively discussion led by UPS's Laura Lane, the audience also shared their views, touching on a wide variety of subjects, from men's role in financial inclusion, to refugees and internally displaced people, and challenges women face in their careers in the public and private sectors.
