Caitlin Thompson is nonresident senior fellow at the Adrienne Arsht National Security Resilience Initiative in the Atlantic Council’s Scowcroft Center for Strategy and Security. She is a nationally recognized subject matter expert in veteran mental health, suicide prevention, and veteran care. As the owner and principal consultant of Caitlin Thompson Consulting, LLC, she provides consultative services to nonprofit, corporate, and government organizations.

Thompson spent over a decade at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), where she served as the executive director’s Office of Suicide Prevention. In that role, she led national policy development, oversaw suicide prevention initiatives, educated veterans and healthcare providers, and implemented assessment and treatment strategies across the Veteran Health Administration. As a licensed clinical psychologist, she began her career overseeing clinical care, supervision, and training at the Veterans Crisis Line.

In addition to her work at the VA, Thompson served as vice president of community partnerships at Cohen Veterans Network, where she built and maintained collaborations with key public and private partners. Most recently, she was vice president at Red Duke Strategies, focusing on healthcare innovation for veterans.

Thompson holds a BA in music from Brown University and both a Master of Education and PhD in clinical psychology from the University of Virginia.
