Carol Schaeffer is a nonresident senior fellow with the Atlantic Council’s Europe Center and a policy fellow with the Jain Family Institute, focusing on decarbonization, the energy transition, and European policy.

She was a Fulbright fellow from 2019 to 2020 and an Atlantik Brücke young leader in 2022. Previously, Schaeffer worked as a journalist, writing for publications such as the Atlantic, ProPublica, the Caravan, and other outlets. She has reported on the current war in Ukraine, on economic and political transitions in the Western Balkans, and across Europe.

She has master’s degrees from the University College London and New York University where she specialized in global journalism and European and Mediterranean studies.
