Cindy L. Otis is a former CIA officer, disinformation expert, and the founder of Otis Group. Having worked in intelligence, cybersecurity, and communications, her work on disinformation is at the intersection of technical investigations and messaging. Prior to joining the private sector, Otis spent a decade at the CIA as an intelligence analyst, briefer, and manager, specializing primarily in security issues in Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa.
She began her federal career working in public affairs for the US Army and served as the communications director for a congressional campaign.
Otis joined the private sector in 2017 where she has since worked building and leading industry-setting disinformation investigation programs, and advising executives on counter-disinformation strategies.
Otis is a frequent news commentator on national security, intelligence, and disinformation issues. She is a member of USA Today’s Board of Contributors. She is also the author of “True or False: A CIA Analyst’s Guide to Spotting Fake News,” published by Macmillan in 2020.
