On Monday, April 20, 2020 at 12:30pm EDT, the Atlantic Council’s GeoTech Center hosted a panel of experts in the fields of health science, digital technologies, workplace law, and data privacy. The panel included Dame Wendy Hall, a nonresident senior fellow at the GeoTech Center; Declan Kirrane, the managing director of ISC Intelligence in Science; Jay Williams, chief technology officer at the Quantum Materials Corporation; Daniella Taveau, principal of Bold Text Strategies; and John Ackerly, the chief executive officer of Virtru. Dr. David Bray, Director for GeoTech Center, moderated the discussion.

On April 15, 2020, Lord Tim Clement-Jones and Dame Wendy Hall shared their perspectives in a live video discussion titled "Why data trusts could help us better respond and rebuild from COVID-19 globally" and moderated by David Bray, PhD, Atlantic Council GeoTech Center Director on the role of Data Trusts in the global response to and recovery from COVID-19.

Dame Wendy Hall is a nonresident senior fellow at the Atlantic Council’s GeoTech Center. She is regius professor of computer science, pro vice-chancellor for international engagement, and the executive director of the Web Science Institute at the University of Southampton. Hall was co-chair of the UK government’s AI Review, which was published in October 2017, and has recently been announced by the UK government as the first skills champion for AI in the UK.

With Sir Tim Berners-Lee and Sir Nigel Shadbolt, she co-founded the Web Science Research Initiative in 2006 and is the managing director of the Web Science Trust, which has a global mission to support the development of research, education, and thought leadership in Web Science. She became a commander of the order of the British Empire in 2009 and is a fellow of the Royal Society.

Previously, Hall was president of the ACM, senior vice president of the Royal Academy of Engineering, and a member of the UK Prime Minister’s Council for Science and Technology. She was a founding member of the European Research Council, chair of the European Commission’s ISTAG from 2010-2012, and a member of the Global Commission on Internet Governance. Until June 2018, Hall was a member of the World Economic Forum’s Global Futures Council on the Digital Economy.
