Chris Murphy: Healing at home shouldn’t stop the United States from its democracy work abroad

The riot at the Capitol on January 6 brought American democracy “to its knees,” US Senator Chris Murphy observed just over a week after the shock to the nation. But that shouldn’t prevent the United States from trying to both “self-correct domestically” and “do the work of democracy promotion.”

China’s economic transformation must change its relationship with the world, says World Bank President David Malpass

China’s fourteenth five-year plan has set its aims high: achieving a majority middle-class country, through income redistribution, reducing economic inequality, and property reform and ownership. But China’s drive to reform its economy “means that China needs to also then have a different relationship with the rest of the world,” according to World Bank President David Malpass.

Katherine Golden is an associate director of editorial at the Atlantic Council and anchor of AC Intel, the Atlantic Council’s flagship newsletter. With nine years of experience in journalism and editing, both at think tanks and newspapers, she has dedicated her burgeoning career to highlighting the ideas of the most innovative doers and top intellectual experts. Before the Atlantic Council, she was the communications coordinator for Food Tank, a nonprofit think tank focused on improving nutrition and sustainability globally. There, she led and edited a team of writers, managed a biweekly podcast and weekly newsletter, and hosted a two-day summit featuring the top thinkers and leaders in the food system. As a loyal Vermonter, Golden once worked at the Manchester Journal, helping increase the Journal’s online presence and compiling the town’s history into a weekly column called “Bound Volumes.”

Prior to her roles at the Atlantic Council and at Food Tank, Golden graduated from Georgetown University’s Walsh School of Foreign Service with a degree in international relations, focusing on culture and politics. There, she dedicated her time to serving her community as a brother of Alpha Phi Omega’s Mu Alpha chapter, where she was awarded the Distinguished Service Key.
