On November 5, 2021, Jessica Drun was quoted in an Al Jazeera article, “China to hold Taiwan independence supporters criminally liable.”
Regarding the new policy, she said that there will likely be a “blanket application” based on the Chinese government’s interpretation of “pro-independence,” including “[e]ssentially anyone that doesn’t fall in line within the rigid bounds of Beijing’s ‘One China’ Principle.” She added that “[t]hose who are of Han decent and have family in China and Hong Kong will be disproportionally affected given the PRC’s stringent notion of ‘betraying the motherland.’”
