The Wall Street Journal quotes Rafik Hariri Center Senior Fellow Karim Mezran on the militia seizure of the US embassy residential compound in Libya:
Karim Mezran, a senior fellow at The Atlantic Council, said he had been in close contact with onlookers at the site Monday. Militias affiliated with the Dawn of Libya group had taken control of the site but have not looted it, he said.
The Dawn of Libya group’s control of the U.S. residential compound is intended to show that the Islamist militias can provide security and create conditions that are safe for U.S. diplomats to return, Mr. Mezran said.
