Politico quotes Vice President and Brent Scowcroft Center Director Barry Pavel on how the United States is reassessing the threat of ISIS after three attacks in three different countries in one day:

“Even if it’s only the ‘inspired’ versus ‘ordered or sponsored’ coordination, as those types of attacks continue to grow you can imagine franchises popping up that because of their successes, almost by their very nature of their successes, then start to have more operational linkages with ISIS central,” said Barry Pavel, Director of the Scowcroft Center on International Security at the Atlantic Council. “You then have a very dangerous combination.”

ISIS’s mastery of social media makes the threat of coordinating those types of low-tech attacks, which are comparatively easier to launch, all the more dangerous, Pavel warned.
