The Associated Press quotes Global Energy Center Nonresident Senior Fellow Brenda Shaffer on the protests surrounding Israel’s gas deal:
Brenda Shaffer, an expert on international energy policy who has served as an adviser to Israel’s Energy Ministry, noted that competition doesn’t always work in certain gas markets. She said the anger surrounding the gas deal was likely a reflection of the public’s broader angst toward its leaders.
“It’s become a symbolic issue for all general frustrations with the situation of governance and rule of law in Israel,” she said “It’s become the poster child for their general satisfaction.”
