WASHINGTON – The Atlantic Council has named veteran journalist Michał Kobosko as the director of the Wrocław Global Forum. Kobosko will be based in Warsaw, Poland, heading the Atlantic Council’s second overseas office after Istanbul.

“Michal brings to this leadership position the intellectual instincts of one of the region’s premier journalists and the building skills of a gifted entrepreneur,” said Frederick Kempe, Atlantic Council president and CEO. “His appointment will allow us to further build the Wrocław Global Forum as the pre-eminent Central European gathering focusing on economic, democracy, and security challenges.”

Kobosko started his journalistic career in 1993 at the economic desk of Gazeta Wyborcza, while studying at the Warsaw Technical University and the American Study Center of the Warsaw University. He has also served aseditor-in-chief of major international publications in Poland, including the national editions of ForbesNewsweek, and Bloomberg Businessweek. Currently Kobosko works with Project Syndicate Polska, a website bringing thought-provoking commentaries by esteemed leaders and thinkers from around the world to readers in Poland. He is also a partner in the local speakers’ bureau Prime Speakers.

The Wrocław Global Forum, co-organized by the Council, the Polish Institute of International Affairs, and the City of Wroclaw, each year convenes some 400 political, business, and civil society leaders from around the world to discuss the most crucial issues of the day. Since its founding in 2010, the Forum has featured leading ministers and parliamentarians, top corporate executives, military leaders, and media. The 2014 Forum will be held from June 6-7 as part of the national celebration of the 25th anniversary of the fall of Communism.

The Forum is also home to the Atlantic Council’s Freedom Awards, honoring extraordinary individuals and organizations that defend and advance the cause of freedom.
