As the US begins a decade of mega sports events—including the FIFA World Cup to the Olympics of LA in 2028 and Salt Lake City in 2034—the Atlantic Council’s Power of Sports focuses on how these events advance diplomacy, business and development. Sports are one of the few truly universal languages and also form a core pillar of international cooperation and economic growth. With its estimated $600 billion value, the global sports industry occupies a unique place at the intersection of private equity, infrastructure, media, technology, real estate, and economic development. However, frameworks that bridge government and business in this field are often lacking. With Power of Sports, the Atlantic Council is leveraging sports as a catalyst for economic development as well as social change and international partnerships.
