As the global community continues to grapple with the coronavirus (COVID-19), the Atlantic Council is open for business. Our business, meetings, and events, however, are occurring virtually. For more information, please read an update from our President and CEO.

In honor of Veterans Month, please join the Atlantic Council Global Energy Center on Friday, November 20 at 10 AM EST for a public conversation with veteran clean energy leaders. The distinguished panel members will share their insights on career paths from the military to the energy industry, the importance of the national security-advanced energy nexus, and the role of veterans in the energy transition.

For the past several decades, US service members have deployed abroad to protect American interests and secure the US energy supply. The US military is the largest institutional consumer of petroleum in the world, and thousands of soldiers are tasked with the dangerous job of guarding fuel convoys as they transport oil across the desert in Iraq and Afghanistan, many losing their lives in the line of duty. Further, domestic and forward-deployed military installations are increasingly threatened by climate risk, as floods, storms, and extreme heat damage bases and electrical grids, undermining overall military performance. Through their lived experiences in uniform, US veterans understand the importance of the clean energy transition for national security, military efficacy, and global stability. As a mission-driven community with critical skills and applicable experience, US veterans are well-positioned to play a pivotal role in the green economy and the clean energy future.

Please join this conversation via the web application Zoom, which is accessible through your web browser, the Zoom desktop or mobile app, and by phone. If you wish to join the question and answer period, you must join by app or web. You must register to receive further information on how to join the virtual audience.
