Merry Lin is a 2020 Atlantic Council Millennium fellow and served as a senior advisor on the National Economic Council at the White House from 2017 to 2020. In that capacity, she developed and coordinated the administration’s economic policies on China, ranging from bilateral trade and investment priorities to China’s role in the global economy. She also served as the lead National Economic Council/National Security Council coordinator of the US-Japan Economic Dialogue, which led to initial trade agreements with Japan, and supported negotiations that resulted in significant improvements to the US-Korea Free Trade Agreement. Previously, she served as the director for global and Asia economics on the National Security Council, where she formulated and coordinated US economic policies on China, Japan, and South Korea.

Prior to joining the White House, Lin advised senior officials on China market access and currency issues at the US Department of the Treasury. She studied at Northwestern University and The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. Lin is a member of the Association of Insolvency & Restructuring Advisors, and she holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation and a Financial Risk Manager Certification.
