Conversation with former Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov

On Tuesday, June 10th, the Dinu Patriciu Eurasia Center welcomed former Prime Minister of Bulgaria Boyko Borisov for an off-the-record roundtable discussion.


As the chairman of Bulgaria’s GERB (Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria) Party, Mr. Borisov spoke about his party’s commitment to democratic values and its strong interest in partnering with the EU and US on a variety of foreign policy issues. The roundtable conversation focused largely on Bulgarian energy development in the natural gas and nuclear energy sectors. Mr. Borisov emphasized the economic and strategic necessity of reducing his country’s dependence on Russian gas, and reaffirmed his party’s intention to make Bulgaria energy independent through domestic shale gas exploration.
