As the global community continues to grapple with the coronavirus (COVID-19), the Atlantic Council is open for business. Our business, meetings, and events, however, are occurring virtually. For more information, please read an update from our President and CEO.

Qatar is at a pivotal moment as it faces several economic challenges due to years of declining energy prices, the embargo by several of its neighbors, and the disruption caused by the pandemic. Like other Gulf Cooperation Council countries, Qatar is seeking to diversify its economy and create new jobs by empowering the private sector. Key to this strategy is building a robust entrepreneurial ecosystem and supporting small and medium enterprises.

EmpowerME at the Atlantic Council’s Rafik Hariri Center for the Middle East hosted a discussion on October 26, 2020 with Qatar Development Bank CEO Abdulaziz Bin Nasser Al Khalifa, who is spearheading many of Qatar’s efforts to promote entrepreneurship and drive economic diversification and growth.

empowerME shapes solutions to empower entrepreneurs, women, and youth and build coalitions of public and private partnerships to drive regional economic integration, prosperity, and job creation.
