Please join the Atlantic Council’s Europe Center and the New American Engagement Initiative on Wednesday, March 23, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. EST for an event on European defense policy following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Russia’s brutal invasion of Ukraine has awakened Europe to the dangers of war, prompting announcements of defense spending increases just days after the invasion. How will European security and defense policy change in response to the conflict? Will a stronger European pillar emerge within NATO? Or will the United States decide to increase its permanent military presence? How can Washington work with its NATO allies to rebalance and strengthen the alliance?
The Future Foreign Policy series features new perspectives to expand the US toolkit to address traditional threats, confront emerging challenges, and enable greater and more robust global engagement with allies and partners. To this end, our invitees bring much-needed diversity into the national security dialogue. The speakers include not only those from traditionally underrepresented groups in Washington foreign policy circles, but also those who represent a range of viewpoints.
