Limiting the increase in global average temperature to 1.5°C is within reach—but only with action across all levels of government and all segments of society. Across the United States, cities, states, and communities are executing bold, ambitious plans to reduce national emissions, even in the absence of federal leadership. This wave of sub-national climate action is occurring around the world, with multi-sector coalitions stepping up across the globe—including in Argentina, Japan, Mexico, South Africa, and Vietnam—to support the delivery and enhancement of their countries’ climate goals. This rapidly expanding coalition of actors is demonstrating that the transition toward a transformed, clean energy economy generates opportunities and extensive benefits for economies, communities, and ecosystems, while making a real difference in global emissions. This discussion will feature leading policy experts from several organizations working to analyze and communicate the impact of this growing sub-national effort.
