Please join the Atlantic Council Global Energy Center and the Electric Power Research Institute on Wednesday, March 2nd, from 12:00 – 2:00 pm EST for a private and off-the-record workshop on technological pathways toward industrial decarbonization. This event will feature two small panel discussions that will compare and evaluate the available decarbonization technologies in the steel and cement and concrete industries, respectively.

The discussion will focus on the technologies and practices—from clean hydrogen fuel substitution and carbon capture technologies to electrification—available for various heavy industries’ decarbonization. This will include an examination of how far each technology is from deployment, the path ahead for development, and the benefits and drawbacks of each technology in heavy industry applications.

This workshop launches a new project at the Atlantic Council that will examine the various technologies that can spur decarbonization in the hard-to-abate sectors, their potential impact on global supply chains and industrial development, and the policies and investments that could most effectively incentivize and support industrial decarbonization. Momentum behind innovative clean technologies continues to build in the United States, most recently with the Biden-Harris administration’s announcement of the Buy Clean Task Force to accelerate the deployment of decarbonizing technologies. The potential for hydrogen, carbon capture, electrification, and other technologies in heavy industries will be critical to reaching net zero, but each solution is at a different stage of development and may suite different applications more effectively. Charting the path from demonstration to broad adoption and assessing where these technologies can make the largest impact will be critical.

This is a private, off-the-record event, and the Chatham House rule applies. Please join this conversation via the web application Zoom, which is accessible through your web browser, the Zoom desktop or mobile app, and by phone.
