On Monday, May 19 at 9:00 a.m. ET, the Atlantic Council and Center for East European Policy Studies will host the US-Latvia Resilience Conference at Atlantic Council headquarters.
The current period of heightened geopolitical uncertainty has been defined by shifting power dynamics, ongoing conflicts, and hybrid threats aimed at undermining the resilience of democratic states. Russia’s continued aggression against Ukraine has significantly transformed Europe’s approach to security, exposing vulnerabilities and emphasizing the vital role of resilience in protecting democratic societies.
This event is being organized as part of a joint project, with support from the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Latvia, entitled “The Evolution of Latvia’s Defence and Security Policy in Resilience Building.” Featuring a series of analytical articles, produced by established experts from Latvia and the United States, the conference will help strengthen public understanding about key eastern front allies and the United States’ security and defense policies, with a particular emphasis on resilience-building practices.
Latvia has championed the implementation of a comprehensive national defense concept as the nation strengthens its defense and deterrence posture. As the new US administration develops its own National Defense Strategy, this event intends to shape policy discussions on the future of resilience practices in Latvia and the United States, as well as across the broader Euro-Atlantic region.
This conference will provide a platform to present the findings of the analytical series and to have discussions engaging policymakers, experts, and opinion leaders on both sides of the Atlantic on resilience policies and transatlantic security.
