Please join the Atlantic Council Global Energy Center on Thursday, September 23, from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. EDT for a private, in-person discussion about US nuclear energy leadership and how the United States can maintain its competitive edge through nuclear energy innovation.

For the past seventy years, the United States has been the global leader in nuclear energy innovation. US reactors produce the most power of any fleet in the world, and the US has built a thriving ecosystem of nuclear institutions and norms. However, US presence in the global nuclear market has waned, while Russian and Chinese state-owned enterprises have moved to fill in the multi-billion-dollar gap. Forging ahead with the development of new civil nuclear capabilities, Russia and China are leading on their own terms and diminishing US influence.

This conversation will address US nuclear energy leadership and how the United States can maintain its competitive edge through nuclear energy innovation. The discussion will examine the role of the Versatile Test Reactor in the nuclear innovation ecosystem, and it will also highlight the importance of public and private sector cooperation in order to continue to innovate and bring forward the next generation of nuclear energy technologies.
