Chynna Hawes is a 2023 Millenium fellow and director for China at Edelman Global Advisory (EGA) in Washington, DC. A China specialist, Hawes helps translate US-China political and regulatory developments to help clients navigate the complex geopolitical landscape, advance their business interests, and mitigate risk. Prior to EGA, she worked with the US-China Business Council, advocating US business interests in the China market. A member of the government affairs team, she focused on US executive and congressional policy developments, but also spent time analyzing Chinese political and regulatory developments across intellectual property rights and the health sector.
Before that, Hawes lived in China for eight years, where she worked for global communications companies, including Edelman, helping major multinationals and Fortune 500 companies promote and protect their corporate reputations. Hawes has a master’s degree from the Johns Hopkins-Nanjing University School for Advanced International Studies, which she completed in Mandarin, and a bachelor’s degree from Middlebury College. She speaks Mandarin Chinese.
