ArabicHind Kabawat is a nonresident senior fellow for the Syria Project in the Atlantic Council’s Middle East Programs. Hind is an adjunct professor and the Director of Interfaith Peacebuilding at the Center for World Religions, Diplomacy, and Conflict Resolution (CRDC) at the Carter School for Peace and Conflict Resolution at George Mason University. In her peacemaking work as an adult, she draws upon religious leaders to help change attitudes, reverse prejudice and work toward conflict analysis and reconciliation in Syria and throughout the Middle East.
Hind has directed CRDC’s Syria work since 2004 and has trained hundreds of Syrians in multi- faith collaboration and civil society development. She is also the founder and director of the Syrian Centre for Dialogue, Peace, and Reconciliation in Toronto and has served as a consultant and advisory board member at the World Bank. Hind is also President of TASTAKEL, a women’s organizion for women empowerment and peacebuilding and President of the Syrian Canadian Women’s Association in Toronto in addition to serving on the governing board of Interpeace in Geneva and the board of the Syrian Economic Forum and Syrian Christians for Peace. Former Deputy Head of the Syrian Negotiation Commission’s Geneva Office and a former member of the High Negotiations Committee and participated in all eight rounds of the Geneva peace talks on Syria.
Hind holds Holds a Master’s in Law and Diplomacy from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University and is a former visiting scholar for the Program on Negotiation at Harvard Law School. She also holds a law degree from the Arab University in Beirut and a BA in Economics from Damascus University. Hind received an award from the Tanenbaum Center for Peacemakers in Action and another from George Mason University in public diplomacy.
